XPS insulation board is extruded polystyrene insulation board. It is made of polystyrene resin as raw material, other raw materials and polymers, heated and mixed by special process, and injected with catalyst, and then continuously extruded and pressed to form a rigid foam plastic board. Its scientific name is extruded polystyrene foam for insulation (abbreviated as XPS). XPS has a perfect closed-cell honeycomb structure, which makes XPS board have extremely low water absorption (almost no water absorption), moisture-proof, airtight, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, low thermal conductivity, high pressure resistance, anti-aging (almost no aging and decomposition phenomenon in normal use), long service life, low thermal conductivity and other excellent performance energy-saving and environmentally friendly insulation materials.
Its mechanical properties are incomparable to EPS. In addition, due to the tight closed-cell structure caused by continuous extrusion. Its density, water absorption, thermal conductivity and vapor permeability are lower than other types of boards, and it is currently recognized as the best insulation material in the market.
First, performance characteristics
1. Excellent thermal insulation
It has the characteristics of high thermal resistance, low linearity and low expansion ratio. The closed-cell rate of its structure reaches more than 99%, forming a vacuum layer to avoid air flow and heat dissipation, ensuring the durability and stability of its thermal insulation performance. Compared with the 80% closed-cell rate of foamed polyurethane, its leading advantage is self-evident. Practice has proved that the thermal insulation effect of 20mm thick XPS extruded insulation board is equivalent to 50mm thick foamed polystyrene and 120mm thick cement perlite. Therefore, this material is the best choice for building insulation at present.
2. Excellent high-strength compressive resistance Due to the special structure of XPS board, its compressive strength is extremely high and its impact resistance is extremely strong. According to the different models and thicknesses of XPS, its compressive strength reaches more than 150~500Kpa, which can withstand the ground load of various systems and is widely used in geothermal engineering, highways, airport runways, square floors, large cold storage and car interior decoration insulation.
3. High-quality water-repellent and moisture-proof
Water absorption is an important parameter for measuring thermal insulation materials. After the insulation material absorbs water, its insulation performance decreases. Under low temperature conditions, the absorbed water is very easy to freeze, destroying the structure of the insulation material, thereby reducing the compression resistance and insulation performance of the board. Since the molecular structure of polystyrene itself does not absorb water, the molecular structure of the board is stable and has no gaps, which solves the problems of water leakage, penetration, frost, condensation, etc. of other materials.
4. Light texture and easy to use
The completely closed-cell foaming chemical structure of the XPS board and its honeycomb physical structure make it light and high-strength, easy to cut and transport, not easy to break, and easy to install.
5. Good stability and corrosion resistance
During long-term use, it will not age, decompose, or produce harmful substances. Its chemical properties are extremely stable, and it will not degrade due to water absorption and corrosion, causing its performance to decrease. It can still maintain its superior performance in high temperature environments. According to relevant information, XPS extruded insulation board can still maintain excellent performance even if it is used for 30 to 40 years, and it will not decompose or mildew, and there is no volatilization of toxic substances.
6. Product environmental performance
XPS board has been tested by relevant national departments and has stable chemical properties, no volatile harmful substances, harmless to the human body, and the raw materials used in production are environmentally friendly materials, which do not produce any industrial pollution. This product is an environmentally friendly building material.
Second, scope of application
Building roof insulation, steel structure roof, building wall insulation, building ground moisture retention, square ground, ground frost heave control, central air conditioning ventilation ducts, airport runway insulation layer, high-speed railway roadbed, etc.
Third, application status
1. Peeling treatment. The surface of ordinary extruded board is smooth, and its surface has poor adhesion with adhesives and plastering mortar. On the one hand, it can make the surface rough and uniform, which is conducive to pasting. Its tensile bonding strength, water resistance and freeze-thaw resistance with adhesives and plastering mortar are all above, which greatly improves the bonding force of the system and increases reliability. On the other hand, a certain amount of internal stress is evenly released through peeling treatment.
2. National standard situation. There is no relevant national standard for the application of extruded board. Therefore, many users have borrowed the technical standards of expanded polystyrene board. In June 2009, Shanghai Institute of Building Science and National Building Standard Design Institute jointly organized the preparation of technical standards for extruded board plastering external wall insulation system. At the same time, the national standard 08CJ16 "Extruded Board Insulation System Building Structure" compiled by Knauf was also revised by the National Building Standard Design Institute in August 2009. The industry is working hard to strengthen the application specifications and standards of extruded boards to ensure the reasonable use of extruded boards in external wall insulation.
The national standard stipulates that the dimensional stability of peeled extruded boards is ≤%, and Knauf has done some research on this point. By setting expansion joints in a certain area of the external wall insulation system, the deformation of each layer of the system can be effectively released.
3. Dimensional stability. Many people in the industry believe that extruded boards used for external wall insulation have poor dimensional stability, which will cause their dimensional deformation due to the influence of climate, and eventually cause cracking of the finishing layer coating, which is not as good as the EPS system. In fact, we can see from the elastic modulus of the three materials in the system that the mortar is about 15500MPa, EPS is about 4-6MPa, and XPS is about 7-9MPa. Although the elastic modulus of EPS is slightly smaller than that of XPS, compared with the elastic modulus of mortar, EPS and XPS extruded board are of the same order of magnitude, and the constraints between the materials will not change essentially. There is no saying that the constraint effect of mortar on EPS is better than that on XPS, and many engineering examples have also confirmed this effect.
